We made a stir fry tonight and it was delicious. I say we because my husband and I both cut up the veggies and then he stir fries them. I’m so lucky that my husband enjoys cooking. He’s a peach.
Everything in the stir fry but the potatoes and
the olive oil was harvested out of our garden.
crookneck squash
1 ball squash
kohlrabi
romaine lettuce
onions
fresh basil
fresh parsley
potatoes
stir fried in olive oil
The kohlrabi didn’t taste anything like I thought it would, I expected a broccoli or cabbage taste, but surprise surprise it tasted alot like a mild water chestnut and was mildly crunchy. Cool!
If you all get a chance to either grow or purchase a kohlrabi just to see what it tastes like, I hope you’ll come back and let me know how you cooked it and what it tastes like to you.
Happy Gardening and happy harvest!

Looks like we’re enjoying our summer veggies
I’ll have to check out Kohlrabi.
Hey Angeline
Summer veggies are the best.
Let me know if you try kohlrabi.
Your stir fry looks delicious. I have never tried kohlrabi, but it sounds interesting, especially with the crunchy texture, so I will buy some next time I’m at the supermarket; I love the taste of horse chestnut, so I should like it. Thanks for the heads up!
Thanks Barb
I’m happy that we tried Kohlrabi. We like it in the stir fry really well.
If you try it, let me know what you think of it.
The stir fry looks scrummy! I’ve tried many new foods since moving to Portugal – I can’t believe how narrow my food intake was. Have you tried celeriac?
Thanks Pip
We didn’t really start trying new foods or venturing past the basic familiar foods until these past couple years. Like you, we’re surprised at how narrow our food choices was.
I’ve never tried celeriac. I just looked it up on a search engine and realize that I see it ever now and then in the produce department, but I didn’t have a clue what it was because it’s never labeled. I’ll do a bit of recipe research and see if it may be a food we’d be interesting in trying.
Mmmm, mmmm…this not only looks delicious but healthy as well!!!
Thanks Mimi
I’m happy that it’s good tasting food is good for us and I must admit it’s a welcomed surprise.
